Stand Down the DELTA!
Meet J.R. Wilson, Mr. Gerald “J.R.” Wilson, United States Army Veteran, Founder and CEO of Delta Veterans Group, (DVG), a 501 (c) 3 organization. Since 2012, J.R. has earned accolades as a career philanthropist and community public figure who cares about preserving and improving the rights and earned benefits that military members, retirees and veterans, their families, and caretakers deserve.
For decades, J.R. has climbed the ladder to success by serving others and leading teams of volunteers that have a common goal, to “Stand Down the Delta”. DVG was proud to bring the first homeless and at-risk of becoming homeless Veteran “Stand Down on the Delta” of its kind to Contra Costa County in September of 2015. Stand Down on the Delta was a four-day, three-night event in which Veterans were provided full medical treatments, court and legal services, DMV, Chaplain services, housing, addiction and mental health counseling, employment, and a myriad of other community services. J.R.’s most notable accomplishment is producing and creating the first Delta Stand Down event of its kind in his region. During the event that recurs now, Veterans are provided with clothing, meals, showers, sleeping tents, and a safe place to “stand down” for the duration. The next Stand Down on the Delta will be held on September 12-15, 2025 at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds located in Antioch, CA..
